New Service Requirements

Welcome to Beltrami Electric Cooperative. In order to make the installation of your new electric service easier, we have outlined the process for applying for a new service.

The following steps must be completed before a new service installation can be scheduled.

1. Complete the following forms:

  • Membership Application (download now)
  • New Service Application (download now)
  • Right-of-Way Easement - you must furnish a copy of the deed to the property. Tax statements are not
    acceptable.

2. Acquire proof of assigned address
You must acquire an address from the county in which you live. This is required by county ordinance for all townships with the exception of the Red Lake Reservation.

3. The following fees must be paid:

  • Membership: $50
  • Setup fee (non-refundable): $350 plus $22.75 tax
  • Deposit: $225 residential, $500 commercial

4. Create a right-of-way corridor
Your driveway, including a 10-foot corridor to either side, must be in place before scheduling a staking appointment for your new service.

5. Call to schedule a staking appointment
The driveway and 10-foot corridor on either side must be in, the fees must be paid and the easement must be signed before calling. Please have in mind where your other utilities are or will be located. Call 218-444-2540 or 1-800-955-6083 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays to schedule a staking appointment at your service location.

6. Obtain a meter loop and submit the state Homeowner Request for Electrical Inspection form
The meter loop must be assembled and installed at the site and the state Homeowner Request for Electrical Inspection form must be signed and submitted to Beltrami Electric, along with the $41 inspection fee, prior to scheduling the installation of your new service. Checks must be made payable to the MN Department of Labor. If an electrical contractor is performing the installation for you, it is the contractor’s responsibility to submit the Homeowner Request for Electrical Inspection form and associated fee on your behalf. An additional charge of $350 plus tax will be required if the meter loop is not assembled and installed at time of construction.
