Power Plant Tours
The 2017 tour is scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday, July 18-20.
On the first day, we will tour Minnkota Power’s control center in Grand Forks. From there we will make our way to see Minnkota's Infinity Wind Tower near Valley City, N.D. We will end our first day with a presentation and banquet dinner at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Mandan, N.D. We encourage you to bring your swimsuit if you’d like to enjoy the pool.
The second day we will visit the Milton R. Young Station near Center, N.D., where most of our electricity is generated. This will also include a tour of the BNI Coal open pit mines where machines strip the coal and then reclaim the land so it can once again be used for agriculture. Weather permitting, this is also where we get to see the huge electric drag line Liberty up close, with its 300-foot boom and 70-cubic-yard bucket, which is used to remove the overburden soil from the coal. After a stop for lunch at the Square Butte Creek Golf Club House, we will make our way to Fort Mandan and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, at Washburn, N.D.
On the third day, we will take a guided tour of the Garrison Dam and tour the hydro-electric plant.. After a stop in Carrington, N.D. for lunch, we will make our way back to Bemidji.
The cost to members for the three day trip is $100 per person or $175 per double occupancy, which covers the bus fare, hotel, tours and all meals.
Members who have not been on this trip in the past are encouraged to go. Trip is limited to ages 12 and over.
